LOTM Companion

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 31 August 2026

LOTM Companion is an unofficial, fan-made reference app for the novel Lord of the Mysteries — pathways, sequences, characters, items, deities and potions, plus an optional community chat room. This Privacy Policy explains exactly what information is — and is not — collected while you use the app, and how advertising works inside it.

1. Overview

LOTM Companion ("the App", "we", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. The App has no sign-up, no login, and no password. It never asks for your real name, email address, phone number or location. You can read every entry in the App without providing any information at all. By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the App.

2. The Community Chat (Optional)

The chat room is entirely optional. Nothing is sent to it — and no profile is created — unless you choose to join it.

If you do join, the App stores:

  • A display name of your choosing. Pick a nickname — do not use your real name, and do not put an email address, phone number or any other personal detail in it.
  • The avatar you select from the pictures bundled with the App.
  • A random identifier generated on your device. It is random rather than derived from anything about your phone, so it identifies your chat profile and nothing else about you.
  • The messages you send, and the time you sent them.
  • A short-lived presence marker while the room is open, so the App can show how many readers are online. It is removed as soon as you close the App or lose connection.

Chat messages are public. Anything you post is visible to every other reader using the App, alongside your display name and avatar. Please treat it as a public forum and never share personal or sensitive information in it.

Readers can report a message. A report records the message being reported and the reason given, so it can be reviewed and, where appropriate, the message removed. We may remove messages, rename a profile or block a profile that breaks the room's rules.

3. Suggestions, Proposed Entries and Reports

These features are optional too. They only send something when you fill in the form and tap send.

  • Corrections and suggestions: the text you write, and which entry it refers to.
  • Proposed new entries: the details you type, and — only if you choose to attach one — a picture you pick from your device. The picture is resized and uploaded so it can be reviewed; the App does not read your photo library or upload anything you have not explicitly selected.
  • Problem reports and feedback from the settings screen: your message, the app version, and — optionally — a nickname and a contact address, if you choose to type one so we can reply.

A contact address is never required. If you leave it blank, the report is still received — we simply have no way to reply to it. Submissions are used only to review, correct and expand the App's content, and are never sold or used for marketing.

4. Data Kept On Your Device

The following stays on your phone and is never uploaded to us:

  • Your favourites and bookmarked entries.
  • Reading preferences, such as text size and app settings.
  • Your chat display name, avatar choice and random identifier.
  • A cache of the artwork and catalogue data already downloaded, so the App opens quickly and uses less data.

You can erase all of it at any time by clearing the App's storage and cache, or by uninstalling the App.

5. How the Content Is Delivered

The App's catalogue and artwork, the chat room, and the submissions described above are hosted on Google Firebase(Realtime Database and Cloud Storage), provided by Google LLC. When your device connects, Google receives ordinary connection information such as your IP address, and processes it on our behalf to operate and secure the service. We do not use Firebase Authentication, and we do not build advertising or marketing profiles from this data. You can read Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

6. Advertising

LOTM Companion is free and supported by ads. Ads cover hosting and development so the App can stay free.

Ads are served by Google AdMob, a service provided by Google LLC. To serve and measure ads, Google may collect and process limited information from your device, which can include:

  • An advertising identifier (the Android Advertising ID), which you can reset or delete at any time
  • IP address, and an approximate, non-precise location derived from it
  • Device type, operating system version, language, and app version
  • Ad interaction data, such as which ad was shown, whether it was tapped, and how much of a video ad was watched

Where ads appear

The App shows these kinds of ads:

  • A banner at the bottom of some screens.
  • Native ads placed between cards in the browsing lists.
  • An occasional full-screen ad when you open the App.
  • Rewarded ads, which are always optional. You are told what you will get before one plays, and you can decline. None of the App's reference content is locked behind watching an ad.

Your choices

Ad data is collected and processed by Google under its own privacy policy. We do not receive, store, or have any access to it — we only see anonymous, aggregated earnings totals. You can control personalised advertising in these ways:

  • On your device, open Settings › Privacy › Ads to reset or delete your advertising ID and opt out of ad personalisation.
  • If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you will be asked for your consent choices before personalised ads are shown, and you can change them at any time.

You can read how Google uses this information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

7. Permissions

The App requests internet access to load its catalogue, artwork, the chat room and advertisements. Picking a picture for a proposed entry uses your system's photo picker, which hands the App only the single image you choose. The App does not request access to your contacts, messages, precise location, or your photo library as a whole.

8. Children's Privacy

LOTM Companion is intended for a general audience of readers of the novel and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the App contains a public community chat and shows advertising, parents and guardians should supervise use by younger users. If you believe a child has posted personal information in the chat, contact us at the address below and we will remove it.

9. Retention & Your Control

Everything stored on your device is under your control and can be erased by clearing the App's data or uninstalling it. For the small amount of data held on our side:

  • Chat messages and profiles are kept while the room is running, so conversations and moderation history stay intact.
  • Suggestions, proposed entries and reports are kept until they have been reviewed and acted on.
  • Presence markers are removed automatically as soon as you go offline.

You can ask us to delete your chat profile, your messages or a submission at any time by emailing the address below with your display name. Because there is no account and no password, please send the request from the App's report form or mention a detail that identifies your profile, so we remove the right one.

10. Fan Project Disclaimer

LOTM Companion is an unofficial fan project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the author or publishers of Lord of the Mysteries. All names, terms and story elements referenced belong to their respective owners; the App provides summaries and reference material for readers.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
